Vegan candy company Sugar Noms recently launched in the United Kingdom. Founders Kay Tarry and Marc Teasdale created the sweets company after Teasdale lost his job as a kitchen designer during the COVID-19 lockdown. The setback offered the couple an opportunity to fulfill their dream of starting a vegan candy business. Sugar Noms offers a range of more than 100 vegan sweets and treats, such as fudge made especially for them on the Isle of Wight, as well as meringues, bons-bons, licorice, cola bottles, and wonky noms. The company offers gluten-free and palm oil-free options, clear labelling for allergens such as nuts and soy, and even uses vegan and 100-percent recyclable tape and stickers.
“Our customers have total assurance that they are buying the best confectionary available for vegans, vegetarians, and allergy sufferers with no risks of cross contamination,” Teasdale said. “We wanted to supply affordable treats and everything is tested, ingredient-checked, and loved by us personally even though it’s a tough job.”
The couple recently moved the business into UKSE’s Innovation Centre in Redcar, England, where they created a Candyland office with extra space and the ability to organize COVID-safe collections and tasters. Tarry and Teasdale plan to continue growing the business by expanding outside the UK, creating a YouTube channel, and expanding their offerings with sugar-free options and tailored wedding boxes.
