Target Just Launched Vegan Mac and Cheese Cups

Target now sells microwave-ready, vegan mac and cheese cups.

Ready to eat in just two minutes, Annie’s cheddar-flavored Organic Vegan Mac Pasta and Sauce cups are GMO-free, certified organic, and made without artificial ingredients.

The brand’s boxed dairy-free mac and cheese is also available at Target.

In addition to Annie’s products, the retailer sells a number of other vegan mac and cheese options. These include Daiya’s dairy-free cheddar-style Cheezy Mac, four-cheese Deluxe Cheezy Mac, and Alfredo-style Deluxe Cheezy Mac.

Target also sells Amy’s frozen gluten- and dairy-free rice macaroni and Sweet Earth’s frozen cauliflower mac.

Target Caters to Growing Vegan Demand

Target has been expanding its vegan options over the years to meet the growing demand for plant-based products.

A study released in February 2020 revealed that nearly 25 percent of Americans are eating less meat than ever before. According to data analytics company Gallup, many consumers are reducing their intake of animal products for the environment, but also for their own personal health.

Another study conducted by Numerator last year revealed that 80 percent of American consumers would like to swap out some or all meat products for plant-based alternatives. Again, the driving factor for most was health.

To better cater to demand, in 2018, Target introduced colorful, cruelty-free labeling with its “wellness icons.” In its 2018 Corporate Responsibility report, Target said the new labels aimed to enhance its guests’ ability to make more informed purchasing decisions.

Food and beverage products are now clearly labeled Vegan, Plant-Based, Organic, Fair Trade, and Non-GMO. Other items like beauty products also received special labels like Cruelty-Free, Non-GMO, Biodegradable, Non-Toxic, Plant-Based, and Vegan. Supplements and other nutrition products received similar labels.

Last month, the retailer released its own vegan mayo under its Good & Gather label. The label launched last summer. It features a number of high-quality and affordable food and beverage products—including a variety of vegan options.

Target has also added a number of other plant-based products to its aisles, including vegan chocolate cupcakes, ice cream, sangria, and Hippeas chickpea snacks.
