Rocker Lenny Kravitz has shared his secret to longevity—and his age-defying physique.
The 56-year-old singer-songwriter left his abode in Paris to wait out the coronavirus pandemic at his home in the Bahamas. While soaking in the sun on the island of Eleuthera, the Kravitz has been indulging in his own vegetable garden and credits his vegan diet for his good health.
During a Zoom interview with Men’s Health, the musician gave a glimpse into his fridge.
“What we have is green and more green. We’ve got cucumbers, mangoes, broccoli, kale, salad greens,” he explained. “A great blessing of living here in the Bahamas is that I’m able to grow my own food.”
While hunkering down in the Bahamas, Kravitz says the vast majority of food he eats comes from his garden.
“As you can see, I’m vegan and primarily raw. I have done extensive raw diets where I eat raw for a year,” he continued. “When I’m here, I like to eat as much food as possible especially in the summertime when you have all of these beautiful fruits growing.”
Some of the fruits and veggies Kravitz grows include sugar-apples, lemons, okra, cucumbers, and his personal favorite—soursop.
Kravitz Rocks a Plant-Based Diet
Kravitz says he’s very careful about what he puts into his body. But he also stressed the importance of exercising regularly, saying he works out five to six days each week.
“So it’s a combination of eating all these things that I’ve shown you and working out and keeping my muscles and my joints in shape so that I can do what I do, which is get up on stage and play music and have a body that feels free,” he said.
But eating a predominantly plant-based diet is nothing new for the singer.
In 2013, the four-time Grammy Award winner told Men’s Health he had been vegetarian for about 15 years. And in 2016, he posted a photo on Instagram of himself sitting on his kitchen counter surrounded by fresh vegetables.
“100 percent raw for two months now. Amazing for one’s health and the environment #rawfood,” he captioned alongside the photo.
And although he enjoys eating plant-based, the singer does have his cheat days.
“My cheat meals consist of pasta, bread, pancakes, waffles, carbs, carbs, and more carbs,” he told the publication.
