Good Catch’s Vegan Seafood Expands to Europe

This week, vegan seafood brand Good Catch Foods expanded its product lines to new markets in Europe. Owned by parent company Gathered Foods, Good Catch makes vegan tuna in easy-to-use pouches in three flavors and frozen meals such as crab cakes and fish burgers all crafted from a six-legume blend. With the expansion, the brand’s products are now available In the Netherlands at more than 70 stores including Albert Heijn, the largest Dutch supermarket chain, as well as Jumbo, Coop, and more. In Spain, Good Catch is available in Sanchez Romero, a specialty supermarket chain throughout Madrid.

Good Catch was founded in the United States by chef brothers Chad and Derek Sarno with the mission of saving the world’s oceans from overfishing and eliminating animal cruelty in the seafood industry. The retail expansion—the brand’s largest to date—builds on its launch at 300 Tesco stores in the United Kingdom in January. In October, the brand expanded its North American footprint with its entry into the Canadian retail market at 640 retailers, including Loblaws (the country’s largest grocery chain), Provigo, Dominion, and more. The brand plans to expand to 450 Sobeys stores across Canada in coming months. Gathered Foods is working with distributors Green Pro International and Zandbergen World’s Finest Meats (Zoeterwoude) in the Netherlands, along with PHW in Germany, to further expand its reach across Europe.

“As we continue to grow our brand and expand our distribution footprint internationally, we’re incredibly proud to establish this strong retail base across Europe,” Gathered Foods CEO Christine Mei said. “Following our successful partnership with Tesco and our recent launch into Canada with Loblaws, broadening our availability in Europe was the next natural progression. We’re fully committed to delivering our high-quality, craveable plant-based seafood products to consumers across the globe to provide a delicious culinary experience through our retail and foodservice networks.”

In March, seafood giant Bumble Bee announced a joint venture partnership with Gathered Foods—marking the first time a major seafood brand has partnered with a vegan company. The partnership allows for Gathered Foods to leverage Bumble Bee’s sales, distribution, and logistics expertise to make its vegan products accessible to a wide range of customers at affordable prices. In May, Gathered Foods welcomed new celebrity investors, including Paris Hilton, Woody Harrelson, and Lance Bass, to bolster its existing $36.8 million Series B round with the intent of expanding the brand internationally.
