Kevin Smith has announced he is launching a vegan podcast with his daughter Harley Quinn.
The iconic filmmaker announced the new venture – called Vegan Abattoir – on an Instagram post.
Describing the pod, he said Harley and he ‘intend to slaughter misinformation and butcher bullsh*t about being vegan in the least triggering, non-preachy way: by having the audience ask us questions about going green that we, in turn, can ask smarter people than us to answer’.
Smith went plant-based after suffering a type of major heart attack known as the ‘widowmaker’ in February 2018. Smith has since described the attack as ‘the best thing that ever happened to [him] because it saved [his] life in so many damn ways’.
While Smith initially went plant-based for health reasons, over the last year, his daughter – an ethical vegan – inspired him to take a more compassionate outlook, and the pair ended up appearing together in 2018 PSA video for the vegan Farm Sanctuary before Thanksgiving last year, urging people to consider not eating turkey.
Now Smith is taking his veganism even further, co-hosting the podcast with his daughter. In his Instagram post, he revealed that Harley Quinn, who has just celebrated her 21st birthday, came up with the idea.
“You saved my life when you asked me to go vegan,” he wrote. “So two and a half years later, when you asked me to co-host a plant-based podcast with you, you may have also mended my cholesterol-busted heart.
“As a guy who has been recording podcasts since 2007 when you were just eight years old, I’m glad I lived long enough to enjoy one of my favorite pastimes (podcasting) with one of my favorite people in the world (you). So if anyone out there is looking to get Harley something for her 21st birthday, may I suggest simply subscribing to our brand new podcast, VEGAN ABATTOIR!”
‘Metal as hell’
He added: ” It sounds metal as Hell, but the Kid and I intend to slaughter misinformation and butcher bullshit about being vegan in the least triggering, non-preachy way: by having the audience ask us questions about going green that we, in turn, can ask smarter people than us to answer!
“Happy Birthday, Harley! I love you and everything you stand for!”
