A 28-year-old male from North Perth, Ontario, has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Death under the Highway Traffic Act following an investigation into the death of vegan advocate Regan Russell.
The man, who currently remains anonymous, will be required to appear in court – according to a statement from Halton Police.
The media release also states there are ‘no grounds to indicate this was an intentional act, or that a criminal offense had been committed’.
‘Keep fighting the fight’
“She died fighting for what she believed in,” life partner Mark Powell told The Hamilton Spectator, “Whatever it cost, she would pay … Sometimes it’s money. Sometimes, it’s this.”
Powell added that he views the death as an accident, stating: “We can’t let the cause she was fighting for become lost in a fog of outrage. Keep fighting the fight, but don’t be angry. Get the word out.”
The Halton Regional Police Service says it ‘extends its sincerest condolences to the friends and family affected by this tragedy’.
