According to the food delivery service, veganism is ‘no fleeting fad’. In fact, it shows no sign of ‘slowing down any time soon’.
It arrived at the 115 percent by comparing sales between World Vegan Day (November 1) last year, and now.
Deliveroo has increased the number of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants available across the U.K to over 10,000. Consequently, plant-based diners have more options.
It says it has also ‘made huge improvements’ to its tagging system. As a result, consumers seeking vegan dishes can filter options more easily.
Cities with the most vegan orders per capita this year are Brighton, Bristol, London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
Elena Devis is commercial manager and vegan category lead at Deliveroo. In a statement sent to PBN, she said: “It’s fantastic to see that Deliveroo customers are embracing the growing choices of vegan dishes available on the platform.
“Year on year we’ve seen huge growth in demand for plant-based food. And it is our goal as a company to be the go-to platform for healthy and vegan options.”
Deliveroo vegan options
Dr. Carys Bennett is senior corporate liaison at PETA. She added: “PETA is thrilled to partner with Deliveroo to share some of the delectable vegan options that can be delivered to your door this World Vegan Month.
“With decadent dishes including vegan fried chicken, pepperoni pizza, fish and chips, and cheesecake, it’s never been easier or more delicious to make a change that will benefit your health, our planet, and the animals we share it with.”
This latest figure builds on the platform’s previous vegan growth, showing that demand is still growing.
Earlier this year, it reported that U.K. vegan orders had surged by 187 percent in 2020.
A Deliveroo spokesperson put increasing demand for vegan orders down to the U.K’s growing number of flexitarians as well as vegans and veggies.
‘Appetite for vegan dishes’
Arabella Jenkins at Deliveroo commented on the findings at the time.
She said: “Not only have we seen a hungry appetite for new vegan and veggie dishes and restaurants from our customers who always order vegan, but we’ve also seen a Flexi trend emerging.”
This means an increasing number of customers are not only ordering vegan dishes, but also non-vegan dishes.
“We are here to deliver a great choice and selection to our customers, whatever they fancy,” she then said.
